About Us
The project focus is the professional development of middle school mathematics, science and technology teachers to meet the mandated goals of the Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Frameworks. Using a curriculum designed specifically to appeal to an audience of middle school minority and female students the project hopes to engage students in hands-on activities that are linked to high-profile current events, such as NASA’s Mars Rover missions.
Robotic projects provide students with team building skills and direct insight into the work done by Information Technology and Engineering professionals. Moreover, robotics projects help students develop problem-solving and engineering-design skills with applicability to all IT activities and support the understanding of basic skills in mathematics and science.
Robotics: Goals and Mission
- Inspire middle school students, especially those from under-represented and diverse groups (such as women, students from minoritiy cultural and ethnic backgrounds) to take a stronger interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
- Prepare middle school science, math, and technology/engineering teachers to develop interesting activities for students in their classes using robotics
- Incorporate robotics activities to implement the state’s curriculum framework for science and technology/engineering.
- Increase the participation of middle school students, especially minority and female students in STEM activities.
- Build awareness among middle school students of post-secondary education and career paths in Information Technology and Engineering.
